The leaked document on the conduct of the presidential elections is a testimony to all that is wrong with the Law Society. Not only are the presidential candidates prepared to fight a dirty war, they are also prepared to ride roughshod over the Law Society Council and use their influence to stifle debate on important issues, their eyes firmly fixed on the election.
The High Street Starter Kit debacle is one issue which typifies this. Instead of debating the issue on its merits, the team suggests giving consideration to “closing” it down. Does this give us confidence that this is the best team to deal with the Solicitors Indemnity Fund fiasco? Should the profession have confidence that its interests are being best looked after?
