  • A mentor, confidence building etc. Those are sticking plasters on a broken leg. The problem, and it is one that I hear young female lawyers deny every day, is that women have children and when they do they need to spend time with them....until they are 18 not just for their 1st 6-12 months. And until this job makes it possible for mothers to spend an hour or 2 every evening with their children women in their 30s will leave and the female partnership rate will not increase.

    Working part time is used as short hand for uncommitted and difficult, working from home is said in giant air quotes, leaving at 5pm = being a part-timer. These are the prevailing attitudes and the reasons why talented, educated, confident, commercially aware working mothers leave.
