Bredin Prat swoops for Orrick partner

Leading French independent firm Bredin Prat has made a rare lateral hire, boosting its finance group with partner Raphaële Courtier from the Paris office of Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.

Courtier specialises in acquisition, real estate and project finance, and was a partner at Watson Farley & Williams’ French arm before joining Orrick in 2002.

Bredin Prat has a similar business model to European best friends such as Slaughter and May, Bonelli Erede Papparlardo and Uria Menendez and rarely hires or loses a partner.

Orrick still maintains a substantial presence in Paris with 28 partners.

In 2005 the firm ramped up its Paris offering with the hire of several lawyers from Coudert Brothers and a merger with corporate boutique Rambaud Martel. The same year saw Bredin Prat take on most of Slaughter and May’s Paris office.
