Bredin Prat mourns death of founder

French independent Bredin Prat has announced the sudden death of founding partner Jean-François Prat.

Prat, who passed away on 26 March aged 69, founded Slaughter and May best friend Bredin Prat in 1969. He remained working until his death.

Under Prat’s leadership Bredin Prat became one of the best-known firms in the French legal market, picking up instructions on many of the country’s largest deals. Prat’s clients included Taittinger, Allianz and Aventis, which it advised on its 2005 €57bn (£39.17bn) merger with Sanofi-Synthélabo.

Prat also spent several years as a member of the Paris bar council.

Bredin Prat said in a statement: “The thoughts of all of us at the firm are with his wife, his children and their families. We are profoundly attached to his memory and to the human and professional values that he shared with us.”

  • RIP.
He was to France what Joe Flom was to the US.
