In what could be viewed as a harsh but cautionary decision, the UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) has held that a UK trademark registration owned by Gucci for its famous ‘double G’ logo should be partially revoked for non-use. The revocation action was brought against Gucci by the German fashion company Gerry Weber. The IPO held that Gucci proved use and could therefore retain its registration in relation to toilet preparations and perfumes, but that the registration should be revoked for non-use in relation to cosmetics, jewellery, handbags, clothing and other products…
