Bracewell & Giuliani raids Clifford Chance for London energy partner

Bracewell & Giuliani has raided Clifford Chance for energy construction partner Tracy London, marking the US firm’s eighth partner hire this year in London.

US energy law specialist Bracewell &  Giuliani has been expanding its London office since January, when it took on two energy lawyers including Simmons & Simmons partner Julian Nichol (15 January 2013).

The London office focused solely on energy and London will advise on complex engineering, procurement and construction agreements.

The 485-lawyer firm is homing in on emerging sectors of the energy market including the burgeoning shale gas opportunities now filtering into the UK. High-profile partner and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani pledged earlier in the year to make the firm as succesful in London as New York – where he launched in 2006 (5 March 2013)

Its Middle East and Africa nexus has been providing energy-related projects to the London office but the firm is waiting for the UK shale market to pick up and mirror its US success (4 March 2013).

London comes from the energy and infrastructure team in Clifford Chance’s construction team where she has been for five years. She has advised on a range of renewable energy, nuclear, major process plants, and oil and gas projects.

She worked on the major Horizon Nuclear Power deal – a 50:50 joint venture between RWE Npower and E.ON UK that will build new UK nuclear power plants – back in 2009.

Horizon acquired plots of land earlier this year at Wylfa on the Welsh island of Anglesey and at Oldbury-on-Severn in Gloucestershire, both of which figure on the list of 10 sites considered ripe for new-build.
