Personal injury (PI) firm Bott & Co, founded 10 years ago, posted an 18 per cent increase on 2010–11 total revenue, taking turnover to £12.9m for 2011–12.

The firm obtained an alternative business structure (ABS) licence in September 2012 so that two of its non-lawyer members of management, finance director Gary Froggat and practice manager Paul Hinchcliffe, could take ownership alongside managing partner David Bott, who had previously been the firm's sole equity partner.

Bott & Co is devoted exclusively to PI following the closure of its small conveyancing capability in 2011, a decision made following tough market conditions in the sector. The practice was understood to have had four lawyers at the time of closing. Two of the lawyers re-skilled into PI while the remaining two left the firm.

The firm was in merger talks with both legal and non-legal businesses near the end of last year, but Bott said this is more reflective of the PI market than a strategic plan.
