Slaughter and May's Italian ally Bonelli Erede Pappalardo has taken over administrative law boutique Sica.
The prestigious Italian firm will acquire a 20-lawyer team from Sica, including name partner Marco Sica and partners Paolo Borghi, Cristina Mezzabarba and Mariano Protto.
The takeover - the largest by Bonelli to date - is the first stage in a long-term project to boost the administrative law department, particularly in real estate, town planning and infrastructure. Bonelli also hopes to expand its antitrust and regulatory coverage.
Following the merger, Bonelli's administrative law department will have more than 30 lawyers based in the Milan and Rome offices.
Bonelli said in a statement prepared for The Lawyer: "The move creates enormous strategic value for Bonelli by enabling the firm to strengthen its global competitive position through the enhancement of its fully integrated, mutlidisciplinary legal services."
Marco Sica has been an administrative law professor since 1994 and is chair of the administrative law department at the University of Insurbia.
