Slaughter and May's Italian ally Bonelli Erede Pappalardo is taking on two securitisation partners, giving it a specialist finance capability for the first time.
Alberto del Din and Paolo Oliviero will join Bonelli in December from Clifford Chance. Del Din, the more senior of the two partners, is currently based in London, where he heads the Italian desk. Oliviero is based in the Milan office and has only been a partner since Clifford Chance's merger with its long-term ally Grimaldi in January. The partners will focus on debt capital markets, including structured finance and securitisation. Although they will be based in Milan, Slaughters will provide office space for the team when they come to London. The news points towards a strengthening in the relationship between Slaughters and Bonelli, which has not been as strong as its relationship with German firm Hengeler Mueller Weitzel Wirtz. Slaughters' head of corporate Nigel Boardman said that the move will also strengthen the firm's structured finance group. "It will bring an Italian dimension that is very welcome and which our people will be keen to work with," he said. The hires also tie in with Slaughters' long-term strategy to strengthen its structured finance practice.
