Bond Pearce is considering rolling out the assessment programme it introduced two years ago for partners, which includes psychometric testing, to all associates.
The firm has already extended the programme to assistants who are up for promotion to associate level. However, at Bond Pearce's first-ever associate conference, held last March, partners and associates discussed whether the two-day assessment programme should be rolled out to all of its 50 or so associates.
The firm initially introduced psychometric testing for its board members. This was extended to lateral hires and partner promotions in 2004 and was then rolled out to the entire partnership. The first testing of assistants promoted to associate level was in 2004.
The programme, run by business psychologists Kaisen, involves half a day's testing followed by feedback and interviews with a group of partners, including managing partner Simon Richardson, HR partner Tony Askham and operations partner Christine Hanley.
Hanley said benefits of the programme included broadening associates' horizons to issues such as business development and client care. "You can't assume someone can be promoted to associate or partner and then just click into being this different person," she said.
