The 1997 The Lawyer/Hifal Assistant Solicitor of the Year award has been poached from Edwards Bowen & Coby by Baker & McKenzie's London office.
The firm says it is delighted to have hired Philip Alberstat, a media specialist who works for companies in the film and broadcasting industries.
Alberstat is legal editor of TV World, is an executive of the New Producers Alliance and lectures at the European Film Institute and the London Screenwriters Workshop. He has has also written the legal handbook, Media Production Agreements.
Michael Hart, Baker & McKenzie's London-based head of the intellectual property and information technology department, said: "The overlap and interface between IP, IT, telecoms and media law means many of our clients require expertise across all these areas."
Alberstat added: "The media industry is very much a global business. I believe that its legal demands will be ideally suited to Baker & McKenzie's international network."
