BLP's Eisenberg re-elected to top spot
Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) managing partner Neville Eisenberg has been re-elected unopposed for a third successive term and has pledged to expand the firm's international network.
Eisenberg told The Lawyer that the firm would persist with its strategy of not opening its own international offices, but would actively look to bolster the number of exclusive or near exclusive relationships with firms around the globe.
BLP currently has a formal alliance with Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel in New York and Paris and a best friends agreement with German firm Beiten Burkhardt.
Eisenberg, whose third term was confirmed by a partnership vote last Tuesday (21 February), said he had more to achieve as managing partner and that he would target European alliances first.
"I think I still have more to offer the firm and the partners wanted me to stay on, so it was an easy decision," he said. "The past few years have been profoundly transformational for BLP. You'd be hard-pressed to find a firm that has transformed itself as successfully as we have over the past five years."
The firm has seen profit per equity partner grow by more than 120 per cent in the past four years, while turnover has grown by 40 per cent.'We were inundated with offers to join other firms but decided to turn them down in the belief we could run a successful independent firm.'
