BLP turns to Freshfields for tax boost

Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has continued with its strategy of bulking up its tax practice by picking former Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer director Alan Sinyor to join its strategic tax team.
Sinyor will head the VAT practice at BLP and will focus on contentious and non-contentious VAT and indirect tax work.
A BLP spokesperson said: “We’re one of the very few teams in the City that can provide full-service tax advice and that wants to be known for its tax capability.”
BLP decided to emphasise tax as a standalone practice area in 2007 and bagged Clifford Chance’s Michael Wistow to run the department. Since then it has grown the practice to a total of 22 partners.
Freshfields’ VAT practice is run by partner Robert Kent.
