BLP to grow tax team with Lloyds VAT head

Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has expanded its tax capability with the hire of Lloyds Banking Group’s head of VAT Linda Adelson as a partner.

Adelson previously worked at Abbey, Allen & Overy and KPMG. “I’ve had the unique perspective of being the client, and I’ll hopefully be winning business from people who are my peers,” she said.

BLP’s tax department has traditionally focused on property clients, but now includes travel and commercial outfits following the hire of Alan Sinyor from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer as head of VAT.

Adelson hopes to target financial institutions, although she also has contacts within central government due to her experience of lobbying the Treasury and HM Revenue & Customs.

Head of tax Michael Wistow said: “Tax, and more specifically VAT, is becoming business-critical as clients come to terms with the increasing complexities, both domestically and cross-border.”

  • I wish my firm would invest in its Tax department the way BLP does.
