Berwin Leighton Paisner's projects team has beaten off competition from a number of its rivals to take on two PFI deals in the health sector
Its success sees the firm add St Mary's Paddington NHS Trust, The Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust and Mid Essex Hospital Services Trust to its existing client base. In the £360m Paddington Campus Project, BLP was selected over Lovells, Beachcroft Wansbroughs, Herbert Smith and Pinsent Curtis Biddle in a tender. For the second project the firm saw off competition from Herbert Smith, Beachcrofts and Addleshaw Booth & Co to advise Mid Essex on its £110m project for the redevelopment of Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford. Both teams were led by PFI partner Jim Buchanan. "We do a lot of work in the health sector and have developed a good reputation. So when the trusts are asking which firms are good, our name comes up," he said.
