A man from Marazion, Cornwall, who claims he contracted the hepatitis C virus as a result of bone marrow transplant surgery, is taking the Department of Health to the High Court. IJ Caldwell is also suing the National Blood Authority, Royal Cornwall Hospital NHS Trust, Avon Health Authority, and the Committee on Safety of Medicines, claiming he became infected with the hepatitis C virus through their negligence during blood transfusions, and transfusions of platelets before, during and after bone marrow transplant surgery.
