  • Surely Mr Kinleys input will be emphatically bias on this matter!
His entire background is dedicated to the insurance sector, suggesting that his appointment is a big win for insurers in this consultation.
Surely an equally prominent claimant lawyer or represeentative for the claimant sector should be given an equal input to this crucial matter.
It stinks of insurance company lobbying and ther government pandering to them- whilst forgetting that insurance companies are the biggest sellers of PI litigation claims in the industry- thereby driving the so called 'claim culture'.

  • Totally agree with the above. The CJC should be making neutral appointments to a committee like this, otherwise it is open to criticism. Already the insurers have managed to get the entire claimant community into a spin with its effective lobbying (take note Law Soc) which will result in access to justice being blocked for an entire swathe of society. Now they have their man drawing up the rules which we'll operate under. Farcical isn't the word for it, stitch up is.

  • Agree completely with the first two posts. This is incredibly whiffy. The Jackson report was a poorly disguised victory for the insurers. This is blatant pandering to insurers' interests. Ignoring the role of claimant lawyers and their interests in getting paid a fair fee for the risks they assume, for a second, none of this is in the interests of the common man.
Its time people woke up and smelt the cheese.

  • Of Mr Kinley BLM states:
"Mr Kinley joined BLM in 2006 after 10 years at the Association of British Insurers, where he led policy development on topics including civil justice and liability insurance.
His role at the law firm encompasses engagement with government departments and regulators on key issues and consultations affecting the firm and its clients."
"His work here has reinforced how we help our clients and engage on the key policy issues in their sector — such as the Jackson reforms. It is important that the firm takes part fully in these debates and that it takes advantage of the changing structures allowed by the Act so we make the best use of market opportunities."
Surely his role at BLM, to "help our clients...make best use of market oportunities" creates a massive conflict? Stinks indeed!
