This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
The CJC group will look for practical methods of introducing Jackson LJ’s proposals for the overhaul of the litigation system.
Specifically, it will consider proposals for a qualified one-way costs shifting rule, which would mean that claimants would no longer be required to pay defendants’ costs in unsuccessful claims, but defendants would be required to pay claimants’ costs in successful claims.
The group will also consider the introduction of financial sanctions relating to settlement offers and a proposed new test of proportionality.
Kinley joined BLM in 2006 from the Association of British Insurers (ABI), where he was a policy director.
He said in a statement: “The council has a proven track record of helping with the practical implementation of change, most recently regarding the road traffic claims process.
“The CJC is pleased to have been invited to help the MoJ with this important work and I’m committed to us developing workable proposals in these challenging areas.”
The working party is expected to report back to the MoJ by the end of September. This will be followed by a stakeholder workshop in the autumn where responses from the profession will be considered.
