BLG partner quits to launch technology boutique

Barlow Lyde & Gilbert (BLG) partner Andrew Giverin is leaving the firm to set up a technology boutique in the latest in a string of departures from the top 40 firm.

The commercial and technology expert will set up the firm with half a dozen partners from other firms.

The new firm, which will specialise in commercial, technology and outsourcing, is expected to launch in January 2011 and the names of the other partners cannot yet be revealed because they are negotiating their own exit terms.

Giverin commented: “BLG’s a terrific firm, it has a clear vision about where it’s going. However, I see an opportunity in this market to work with other partners to establish a commercial, technology and outsourcing practice that offers legal services in an innovative way.”

Giverin became a partner on joining BLG from Latham & Watkins in 2007.

News of his departure comes amid a wave of recent departures from BLG.

Last month Taylor Wessing cherry picked three senior partners including BLG’s financial services chief Tim Strong and commercial disputes pair Julian Randall and Andrew Howell (8 November 2010).

CMS Cameron McKenna hired partner duo Mike Munro and James Parker (18 November 2010), and Baker & McKenzie took regulatory partner Ian Mason (22 March 2010).

  • I agree with those on this blog that state that what BLG are doing is refocusing back to core business. Those whingeing are part of the ego driven nonsense that got the firm in dire straits anyway. David Jabbari and Simon Konsta know what they are doing - it's called clearing out dead wood. Still not sure about that Oxford office though...:)
