BLG loses arbitration head to Wragges

Wragge & Co has hired the London-based head of the international arbitration practice at Barlow Lyde & Gilbert.

Peter Flint will join Wragges in October to lead its international arbitration offering, which sits as part of a team of 12 commercial litigation partners including Andrew Manning Cox and Nicola Mumford.

Senior partner Quentin Poole said clients were global, with cross-border and domestic disputes, and wanted lawyers with a similarly global outlook.

“Peter is an international arbitration and litigation specialist with a strong client following and an excellent reputation,” Poole added. “He is entrepreneurial, commercial and joining a firm committed to international dispute resolution.”

Flint, who is experienced in the offshore oil and gas and financial institutions sectors and has advised on international trade, transport and cross-border investment projects, previously worked at Watson Farley & Williams.

He is currently advising the developers of an electricity generating plant in West Africa and the investors in a Nigerian financial institution in respect of proposed Icsid arbitration including claims against the Nigerian SEC. He is also representing a listed Australian mining company in Icsid arbitration against the government of the Gambia.

“A broad commercial base, strong credentials in infrastructure and energy projects, plus a genuinely international approach to developing its business, Wragge & Co offers the opportunity to build a top-quality international arbitration practice,” Flint said. “That, and the chance to work with some exceptional lawyers, was too good to miss.”
