BLANCHE LUCAS

Family lawyers are mourning the death of Blanche Lucas, Frere Cholmeley consultant and former Theodore Goddard partner. She died last month, aged 74 after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Budapest, she studied at the LSE until she was returned to the Continent at the start of the second world war. Returning to London in peacetime she joined Theodore Goddard to work on Anglo-Hungarian war reparations and qualified as a solicitor in 1953. She was a partner by 1955 and became the ‘doyenne of the divorce courts’.

Lucas helped increase divorce settlements for wives and as one of the founders of the Solicitors Family Law Association she was involved in the drafting of its first code of practice.
