SJ Berwin has confirmed corporate partner Steven Davis as the firm’s incoming head of European corporate finance and private equity.
Davis will replace Jonathan Blake at the helm of the corporate group from 1 May, when Blake will assume the role of senior partner. Blake will, however, remain an active member of the group.
Blake explained that Davis was selected as the new head of corporate after general consensus within the group revealed that a secret ballot was unnecessary.
The shake-up follows the conclusion of the silver circle firm’s long-running consultation process to choose a successor to out-going senior partner David Harrell, who will stand down from the role on 30 April after 13 years.
Blake was elected to the role through a discrete ballot, while Ralph Cohen will continue as managing partner with an expanded range of responsibilities.
Davis’ practice focuses on advising private equity houses and management teams on buy-outs. He recently advised Hicks Muse (Europe) on the buy-out of Jimmy Choo for £101m and IRRfc (formerly UBS Capital) on the £48m disposal of Denby Tableware.
