Blake Lapthorn has launched a London banking practice after hiring Clyde & Co head of banking Claire Wheatley.
Wheatley will be the firm’s first dedicated City banking partner and will work under Southampton-based practice head Kath Shimmin.
Shimmin said: “We’re committed to building and expanding the banking and finance practice in our London office. We feel that Claire will bring another dimension to our finance offering focusing in particular on property finance work, making us well placed for the upturn in the economy when it arrives.”
The Southampton headquartered firm now has four dedicated banking partners.
Wheatley, who has expertise in real estate finance and mezzanine finance, will be tasked with winning the firm places on bank panels and expanding the client base.

Quite a bold move for them given that many banks are kicking firms off their panel.
