Clearly this is not a case of any particular complexity and could easily be handled by a local S.C. this would normally be sufficient to prevent the ad hoc admission of a Q.C. further the issues relate to Singaporean administrative law which is very clearly reserved to locally qualified lawyers. The fact that no S.C. is willing to represent a local client bringing judicial review proceedings in relation to the decision of the Singapore Law Society against a politically powerful local firm is embarrassing. There may be no choice but to grant permission to Mr Fordham Q.C.to appear: the subsequent proceedings and examination of the issues will, in all probability be even more embarrassing.
