Bird & Bird launches Indian practice with White & Case hire

Bird & Bird has launched an Indian practice with the hire of White & Case partner Nipun Gupta.

Corporate partner Gupta moves on after six years at White & Case, which she joined from her head of legal position at Ispat International (now ArcelorMittal).

Gupta said: “The plan is to do here what we did at White & Case. People like me will help make clients realise that Bird & Bird is not just an excellent IP firm, but also in telecoms and renewable energy.”

White & Case head of India Doug Peel said: “Nipun is terrifically energetic and a phenomenal networker, and those are very powerful tools when building a business.”

Peel transferred to Singapore two months ago to build the practice, which will be bolstered further by the transfers of Washington DC private equity partner Will Kirschner and London capital markets partner Kaya Proudian.
