Bird & Bird has raided Stanbrook & Hooper in Brussels, taking a team of three competition lawyers.
Partner Wilko van Weert heads the team and will lead Bird & Bird's competition practice in Brussels. The firm will now have four partners and 24 other fee-earners in its Brussels office, headed by Paul Hermant.
The office has had a turbulent year. It lost a media team to French firm Sokolow Dunaud Mercadier & Carreras and an environment partner to Liedekerke Wolters Waelbroeck Kirkpatrick & Cerfontaine However, it has also gained a Belgian law practice from Allen & Overy.
Van Weert brings with him clients in the life sciences, communications, media and IT sectors and was attracted to the new role by the firm's expanding international network. Bird & Bird opened a Milan office at the beginning of April and a Düsseldorf office in July last year.
