On the subject of food, Tulkinghorn was chatting to Mark Stewart, banking partner of Clifford Chance, recently about cooking. Stewart, who claims that his wife has cooked for him just once in 18 years of marriage, is a bit of a whizz in the kitchen. How did he learn to cook? asked the culinary flop Tulkinghorn. Stewart explained that, until he was 16, he didn't really have much of a social life as he lived out in the middle of nowhere and so used to spend a lot of time with his mum, who taught him. Tulkinghorn, imagining a rough and ready upbringing in the Scottish Highlands, asked Stewart where it was that he was raised. "Barnet, in North London," replied Stewart. Oooh, so how many days at a time did you suffer the pain of not seeing another soul then, Mark?
