Clifford Chance capital markets head David Bickerton has been elected by the firm’s partnership to become London managing partner.
Bickerton has replaced former City head Jeremy Sandelson who was voted global litigation head in October (7 October 2009).
The news comes after Clifford Chance shed a total of eight fee-earners from its capital markets team last Friday (6 November 2009). It is understood that a number of voluntary redundancies have also been made in the real estate team.
Last month The Lawyer reported that Bickerton and finance head Mark Stewart were going head-to-head in a battle to win the title (14 October 2009).
Bickerton said: “We have a dynamic and successful London and Middle East region with many talented people and an enviable list of clients and mandates.”
Bickerton joined Clifford Chance in 1987 and made partner in 1997. Leading the capital markets practice since 2006, Bickerton became head of the merged equity and debt capital markets teams in January 2007.
