Nottingham-based Berryman saw revenue drop £250,000 last year from £6.5m to £6.25m despite most of its core groups performing well. The drop was caused by Berryman’s split with its seven-lawyer immigration team, which left to form boutique Paragon Law as Berryman refocused on commercial work. Berryman is budgeting for a turnover of £7.5m in the current financial year. The corporate and commercial team performed particularly well last year, with highlights including the £12.5 MBO of Heavyweight Air Express, on which a team led by partner Duncan James (and featuring Tenon Group on corporate tax advice) represented the management. The team also advised on several major mergers and acquisitions including one for £46m. Elsewhere commercial property was flat but private client showed significant growth. The latter team was boosted significantly in 2004 when Berryman acquired Eversheds’ private client business in Nottingham.
