Scottish firm Bell & Scott is relaunching itself as a commercial property boutique just a month after spinning off its two-partner private client team to niche private client firm Pagan Osborne.
Bell & Scott managing partner Iain MacDonald argued that the decision to split fits with the firm's strategy, which was initiated eight years ago to focus on commercial property.
Caroline Docherty, head of Bell & Scott's acquisition and development team, explained that "specialisation is the way forward".
MacDonald also told The Lawyer that the firm is aiming to double in size by 2008, bringing the total number of partners to 20. Bell & Scott comprises 10 partners and 21 assistants. The firm hopes to develop expertise in property investment and planning as well as expanding into England, with a long-term plan to open an office in the south of England.
Bell & Scott's clients include homebuilders Walker Group and Applecross, as well as the Restaurant Group.
