German firm Beiten Burkhardt has beefed up its presence in Ukraine, bringing in eight lawyers to add a tax and IP practice for the first time.
Beiten, which opened in Ukraine in 2004, now has 42 lawyers in the country after raids on accountancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and local firms BC Toms & Co, Shevchenko Didkovskiy & Partners, Sayenko Kharenko and Capital Polis.
The firm's new tax and litigation practice in Ukraine will be headed by Denys Volkov, who has come to Beiten from PwC along with three other lawyers, one of whom, Tatiana Timchenko, will head the new IP/IT team.
The other four hires bulk up Beiten's corporate, real estate and banking practices in Ukraine.
Beiten's Ukraine head Felix Rackwitz said: "We have achieved a remarkable breakthrough in the past two years. The firm has grown threefold and a great number of employees have joined us from upmarket firms. Moreover, our growth is not merely quantitative, but rather qualitative: not only have existing practice groups been strengthened, but also new practices have been established and develop intensively."
