Beachcroft swoops for MBRM's public law team

Beachcroft has hired the entire public law team from Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw (MBRM), taking one partner and two assistants.

Tony Child, who set up MBRM's public law department in 1995, will leave the firm this week to join Beachcroft. He will take a team of two assistants and one legal executive with him.

Beachcroft head of public law Stephen Hocking told The Lawyer: "The new combined team is going to be marked out by an unparalleled depth and breadth of experience in public law.

"I'm hoping that in time we'll build a reputation that will stand alongside some of the big public law chambers, never mind the solicitors' firms."

The combined public law department at Beachcroft will now consist of three partners and seven assistants.

MBRM London senior partner Paul Maher said: "We're very grateful for the team's major contribution and look forward to working with them in the future."

It is understood that public law no longer fits with MBRM's strategy and that the firm is trying to expand its litigation practice, particularly in the areas of corporate and financial support.
