The hire comes just weeks after Beachcroft launched an assault on Halliwells for a healthcare team of 10. This included partners Christopher Briggs and Simon Wortley, who joined Halliwells in February 2008 from DLA Piper to launch a dedicated insurance healthcare practice.

The two firms are understood to be negotiating a start date for the team.

Beachcroft is ploughing investment into its public sector practice in a bid to put it on a par with its insurance unit, which accounts for approximately two-thirds of the firm’s revenue.
“We’re absolutely committed to the growth of our public sector offering,” said Beachcroft partner and head of real estate Virginia Clegg.

Gregory, who was national head of education estates at Eversheds, will join Beachcroft’s Leeds office today (1 March).

“The market in real estate isn’t easy at the moment, so an investment like this is very exciting for us,” Clegg added.

In November 2008 Beachcroft kick-started the growth of its healthcare team with a raid on Eversheds’ Newcastle office for healthcare chief David Weatherburn. He arrived with a team of 29 lawyers and a number of key clients, including 10 NHS trusts.

Associate Belinda Dix will also join Beachcroft today from Capsticks.
