Barristers on the breadline

I was interested to read an article in your most recent edition on a proposed project to organise bank facilities to provide barristers with a regular salary. It is good to see that someone is looking at this subject as many barristers are struggling to make ends meet.

Barristers are in a very difficult position to call in finances: they cannot afford to bite the hand which does or does not feed them. I have personal experience of this, and have been on the breadline as a result. Because the amount of work is mixed, and many years are spent trying to build up a practice, barristers need to come up with solutions. I have to applaud this initiative and really hope it comes to something.
