Barrister revenue hits £250K at Kings

Average revenue per barrister (RPB) at North West set Kings Chambers has broken through the £250,000 barrier.

The set's RPB increased by 18 per cent to £273,400 in 2007 - up from £231,545 the previous year. The chambers' income also rose by 10 per cent from £15.9m to £17.5m.

Kings senior clerk Colin Griffin said it had been a boom year in all the set's core areas, which includes commercial, personal injury and planning.

"Commercial litigation in particular has had an exceptional year, with a growth of 24 per cent on the previous 12 months," said Griffin. "All areas are moving forward and we're looking to expand in Leeds."

The set's expansion has already commenced, with Kings taking on three new tenants in the past three weeks.

Gavin McBride and Charlotte Law of Manchester-based Peel Court Chambers and Sam Karim of Liverpool-based India Buildings have joined Kings.

The set's financial figures also show that chambers contributions have dropped from 10.96 per cent to 10.7 per cent.

This is because Kings has now finished paying for the new building it bought in Manchester 18 months ago.
