Reply Link Amused 14 August 2013 at 11:59 A sad day for Not Amused, certainly. But with a name like that, it sounds like every day is a sad day. I doubt the bar will crumble, but if the position of women at the bar is in such a fragile state that a flattering list of attractive female barristers will demolish it, then that’s hardly the fault of the two girls who wrote the tumblr. Reply Link Outraged 14 August 2013 at 16:02 It’s outrageous. The website at Doughty Street Chambers has crashed…. Reply Link Flattering 14 August 2013 at 17:22 How could anyone not be flattered to be judged solely on how attractive they’re considered to be? Especially when the people doing the judging mean it in a like totally ironic way. We do, after all, live in a ‘lookist’ society. If only such a system of ranking female employees could be introduced into more workplaces. Arguably, the system would work in any setting where how you look has absolutely no bearing on your ability to do your job. I expect they must have taken legal advice. Reply Link Anonymous 19 August 2013 at 14:04 Oh come on this is far too easy what about the ugly so and so’s when do we get to hear about them. Right lets have it stop pussy footing around. We dare you! First of all which one can do the best impression of a Gurning. We want the pictures. Form an orderly queue horse collar in hand. Reply Link Mike Buckingham 19 August 2013 at 19:06 I find it amusing that the male one is heavily based on their physique or ability to appeal to the emotional requirements of their prospective mates, but the female one is dominated by their educational or professional achievements. If the roles were reversed – the men judged by their achievements and the women by their looks, then no argument could be made that this was a ‘counter-balance’. This is simply role-reversal, and it’s still sexist. Reply Link Name Email Cancel reply Threaded commenting powered by interconnect/it code.
