Barratt has appointed a new general counsel and company secretary to take over when incumbent Laurence Dent retires at the end of the year.
Tom Keevil, who joins Barratt in April 2011, will lead a five-strong legal team. He comes from United Utilities, where he filled the same role.
Dent leaves Barratt at the end of December after 10 years and deputy company secretary Ian Hogarth will cover in the interim before Keevil starts.
Keevil commented: “When I was approached for this job I was attracted by the strength of the management team and their ambition to establish Barratt as the foremost leading house building company in the UK.
He previously worked at Gallagher Group and Simmons & Simmons, were he was a partner. He is a non-executive director of the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Barratt was one of a string of major housebuilders to do a cash call last year. The company turned to Slaughter and May partner Kathryn Davis and Davis Polk & Wardwell partner Paul Kumleben for its £720m rights issue (23 September 2009).
