Barnes & Noble snares new GC from IBM

Bookseller Barnes & Noble has raided IBM to appoint Jennifer Daniels to the newly created post of general counsel, vice president and secretary to the board.

In her new role, Daniels will be responsible for all legal matters for Barnes & Noble and its subsidiaries, and will also co-ordinate efforts with outside counsel.

She is also to guide the board on all corporate governance and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) matters, including public disclosures.

Daniels joins the publisher from IBM’s legal department, where she was vice president, assistant general counsel and chief trust and compliance officer with a global responsibility for IBM’s legal and regulatory compliance matters.

During her 16 years at IBM, Daniels also held roles leading IBM’s corporate litigation department and served as vice president and general counsel for IBM Americas, where she managed a team of 95 lawyers and professionals and oversaw all legal matters in the US, Canada, and in Latin America.
