Barlow Robbins

UK 200 position: 168

Turnover at Guildford-headquartered Barlow Robbins remained all but static again in 2011–12, rising slightly from £10.7m to £10.8m. This growth can be attributed to an uptick in commercial work, according to chief executive Ray Black, who draws attention to the firm’s success in attracting several key technology clients in the Surrey area. As a result, the firm’s corporate practice contributed 22.2 per cent of 2011–12's overall turnover.

In 2011–12 Barlow Robbins experienced a record year for dispute resolution, handling several high-level disputes. Personal injury and clinical negligence continue to be strong components of this practice and contributed to 26 per cent of 2011–12 turnover.

True to its traditional private-client strengths, Barlow Robbins advises a large number of high-net-worth individuals and privately owned small-to-medium-sized enterprises.

There are also future plans to rationalise the firm’s office portfolio, which will see it relocate its Guildford-based lawyers, currently spread across three offices, into a central address. The move will see lawyers from the firm’s other two Guildford offices move into the Oriel building and occupy an additional 5000sq ft that was previously sub-let. The firm also has an office in Woking.
