Guildford’s Barlow Robbins’ turnover remained relatively static at £10.7m last year, up marginally from £10.5m, while headcount continued to fall due to a 2008-09 redundancy programme.
A recent reshuffle in commercial and employment and a marked increase in efficiency across the firm also saw average revenue per lawyer creep up from £150,000 to £184,000.
Around half of the firm’s turnover comes from private client work, including personal injury, clinical negligence and family law. Other major practice areas include commercial litigation, property and employment.
Non-lawyer chief executive Ray Black and elected chair Helen Archibald oversee the day-to-day operations. The firm, which also has offices in Woking and Godalming, operates a fixed five-year lockstep, although it is introducing a performance-based remuneration system.
