A new online pupillage application system will be launched next March, the Bar Council has said.
Pupillage Gateway, which is currently being built, is designed to support the high numbers of applications for pupillage and has been modelled so as to acknowledge feedback from users of the previous online system.
The Bar Council intends to carry out market research with prospective applicants and pupillage training organisations this winter in order to find out which other products or services, to compliment the Pupillage Gateway, could make the pupillage process easier for 2014.
Michael Todd QC, chairman of the bar council, said: “The Bar Council has undertaken research to ensure that the pupillage gateway delivers what applicants and chambers need. We decided to take ownership of the new system to ensure the best possible end-user experience, and because, as the body that represents barristers, we are best placed to understand the needs of applicants and recruiters.”
The previous pupillage application system Pupillage Portal had suffered a series of IT glitches in previous years. (19 July 2011)
