Bar revolution forces QCs to mind their Ps and Qs as clients gain the upper hand

  • The evolution of the Bar into a more commercially aware and savvy organisation is long overdue and we are seeing the first faltering steps.
    However, changing the name of a clerk to a currently fashionable appelation doesn't alter the important and pivotal role of the clerking job but does help to get away from the anachronistic and hierarcical nonsense of First Juniors etc.
    More significantly, the Bar will not evolve into a proper business until Chief Executives (or the like) are given the proper authority to manage the whole of the business to go alongside their responsibilites.
