Bar appoints new complaints commissioner

The Bar Standards Board (BSB) has appointed senior civil servant Robert Behrens as the new Bar Complaints Commissioner.

Behrens, previously secretary to the committee on Standards in Public Life, succeeds Michael Scott in the role and takes up his post on 1 June.

The complaints commissioner reviews the system for handling complaints against barristers as well as overseeing the complaints process.

He will work with the BSB, the Bar’s regulatory body, and be independent from the Bar Council.
