The firm will advise on the Trust’s fair trading policies as well as on the competition aspects of new BBC projects, such as on-demand and digital television services.
Competition partner Samantha Mobley is leading the team, she said: “We’ve been working very hard since the appointment. It is a fabulous appointment and everyone here is thrilled.”
The role was created as the BBC Trust replaced the old BBC Board of Directors at the start of this year. The Trust will monitor and advise the BBC Executive, which is charged with the day-to-day running of the corporation.
BBC Trust director Nicholas Kroll issued a statement saying: “The Trust must take decisions in the best interests of licence fee payers. We are pleased to have engaged Baker & McKenzie as legal advisors to the BBC Trust to help us with this work.”
