Baker & McKenzie has hired former British Aerospace counsel Chris Pierce-Cooke as global chief operating officer (COO), based in Chicago.
Pierce-Cooke, who began his career with CMS Cameron McKenna in London, has spent the past seven years as worldwide managing director of organisational consulting services at Philadelphia-based consulting group Right Management. His career also includes a spell as British Aerospace's counsel after which he ran the company's Asia Pacific operations in Australia.
At Bakers Pierce-Cooke will report to John Conroy, chairman of the firm's executive committee, helping him to develop the firm's management agenda. His role will also involve leading the firm's professional management and putting initiatives in place to support lawyers in client relationship management and development.
Conroy said Pierce-Cooke's legal background coupled with his global business management experience made him a strong candidate for the global COO role. He added that Pierce-Cooke's appointment is timely as he will be able to focus on developing the next level of the firm's strategy.
