Baker & McKenzie to open in Abu DhabiBaker & McKenzie is set to expand its presence in the Middle East by opening an office in Abu Dhabi later this year.

The outpost will be headed by former Prague managing partner Borys Dackiw, who will lead a team of around 50 lawyers.

The Abu Dhabi office will be Baker & McKenzie's 69th location worldwide, adding to a three-partner office in Saudi Arabia and a four-partner office in Bahrain.

Executive committee chairman John Conroy said: "Recently, the region has seen higher levels of economic growth and investment in energy related industries, as well as real estate and other sectors."

The office will focus on banking and finance, corporate, capital markets, projects, arbritration and real estate.

The firm has applied for a licence for the opening, and has launched a recruitment drive in Abu Dhabi.

Rafael Jimenez-Gusi, executive committee member for the Gulf region, said the office would provide a platform for the firm's expansion in the region.

Baker & McKenzie joins Akin Gump, BLP and Linklaters as recent arrivals in the gulf state.
