Baker & McKenzie has opened a fourth office in Brazil, taking its global tally to 62.
The international firm has formalised its longstanding association with local practitioners to set up a base in the southern city of Porto Alegre. The office will be headed by partners Claudio Mangoni Moretti and Ricardo Dornelles Chaves Barcellos. They will lead a team of six associates. Baker & McKenzie's chairman of the Latin American regional council Eduardo de Cerqueira Leite will oversee the office's integration into the firm.

Porto Alegre is the point of connection for trade between Brazil, Argentina and Chile. Leite said: "It's one more location where we can support key clients of the firm." Baker & McKenzie clients with operations in the area include Ford, Dell and power generation and distribution company AES. Summing up the reasons for the new office, Leite said: "It's important for our Brazilian offices. It's important for trade in South America. It's important for the firm because of the strategic relations we have with clients operating in Porto Alegre." The firm's other Brazilian offices are located in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia. In adherence to local bar regulations, the firm goes by the name of Trench Rossi e Watanabe.
