Baker & McKenzie's Spanish practice is merging with a two-partner public law boutique in Madrid
The firm's name partner, Jose Antonio García-Trevijano, will join Baker & McKenzie as an international partner. His brother Ernesto García-Trevijano will also join the international partnership pending approval from the Consejo de Estado, the Spanish State Advisory Council, on which he is currently serving. Both partners are Letrados del Consejo de Estado, the most prestigious group of Spanish public lawyers. There are only 25 of them in the country and their function is to provide the Spanish government with public law advice. The merger comes on the back of Baker & McKenzie's worldwide strategy to develop projects, energy and public law. The firm already runs a substantial public law practice in Barcelona and this merger aims to provide a similar service in Madrid. Last year, Baker & McKenzie merged with Spanish tax firm Briones Alonso y Martin. The firm now has more than 150 lawyers in Spain.
