Baker & McKenzie has signed up a three-partner team from collapsed firm Brobeck Phleger & Harrison. Partners Shane Byrne, Phillip Bush and Jason Kuhns and four associates will join the corporate and securities practice at the firms San Francisco office.
With Byrnes team, Baker & McKenzie now has 92 lawyers, including 28 partners, in its Bay Area offices. San Francisco and Palo Alto managing partner Peter Engstrom said: "We're thrilled to have attracted an industry leader of Shane's caliber. He's an accomplished practitioner, to whom clients and colleagues naturally gravitate, and is an ideal fit with Baker & McKenzies strategic practice and culture."
Baker & McKenzie joins a long list of firms to profit from Brobecks collapse. Brobecks one-time suitor Morgan Lewis & Bockius has taken the largest swathe of partners, hiring 50 out of a total 150. Others have gone to firms including Weil Gotshal & Manges, Morrison & Foerster and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.
