BA prepares to unveil slimmed down legal roster

British Airways (BA) is close to announcing the results of its UK-wide panel review, with sources close to the tender predicting a slimmer line-up.

The airline’s existing roster of external law firms includes Addleshaw Goddard, Baker & McKenzie, Bristows, Linklaters, Slaughter and May, Taylor Wessing and Wragge & Co.

While not all firms have been told whether or not they have made the revamped panel yet, it is understood that Baker & McKenzie is likely to be handed a slot.

The firm has been by BA’s side throughout a series of high-profile litigations, including helping the airline win an injunction in relation to planned strike action by its cabin crew (17 December 2009).

It is also likely that Slaughter and May will retain its spot. Along with Uría Menéndez the firm advised BA on its merger with Iberia, while Norton Rose and Garrigues acted on the other side (8 April 2010).

A spokesperson for BA said: “BA regularly reviews its external suppliers across the business but we never comment in detail on a tender process.”
