Litigator Ian Austin became managing partner of North West firm Halliwells in February 2004 following a contested election in which he stood against then incumbent Paul Thomas.
Austin has since been busy stamping his mark on the firm, which burst into the UK’s top 50 firms this year.
The past 12 months have seen a host of announcements for Halliwells, from its conversion to a limited-liability partnership in July to the news in November that the firm was to merge with Liverpool’s Cuff Roberts.
The merger is the first to see a Manchester firm move into Liverpool, and although few observers see a natural cultural fit between the two partnerships, all praise Austin’s openly aggressive vision and his strategy for Halliwells. He wants to see his firm grow – and under his leadership, it surely will.
